Townsend links up with Bees

BEES SWITCH: Robin Townsend
FORMER Lyme Regis boss Robin Townsend has joined the coaching staff at Bridport FC.
Last season, Townsend guided the Seasiders to the Perry Street Premier Division title, the Coronation Cup, the Challenge Cup and the final of the Dorset Intermediate Cup.
However, feeling he had taken the club as far as he could, Townsend then resigned from his post at Davey Fort after three years in charge and has since been snapped up by the Bees.
He will now join forces with reserve-team boss Steve Crabb.
Townsend, right, said: “It’s another new challenge for me. I’m still pretty new to the management game but I was given the chance to join Bridport and it was very difficult to turn it down.
“Hopefully I will learn from the likes of Steve and Mark Lock, as well as others at the club, and bring something different myself.
“It’s going to be an experience for me and I’m certainly looking forward to it.
“I believe Mark will be taking more of a backseat so I will go there as joint-manager with Steve and help him run the side and run training. I will help as much as they want me to.
“Hopefully I will bring something to the party but I guess time will tell.
“It’s Steve’s team but he’s said I will have a big input and hopefully things will work out well for everyone involved.”
The reserves finished seventh in the Magna Dorset Premier League last time out and Crabb is keen to push on in 2012/13.
Townsend added: “For a reserve team to be in the top seven of that division they have done ever so well. I know Steve wants to bring the team on even further so we’ll see how it goes. I’m just looking forward to it all.”
