Bees blasted by Westland
Bridport RESERVES 1
WESTLAND SPORTS 5
THE Bees need to find a way of beating the top sides if they are to stand any chance of breaking into the Magna Dorset Premier League’s elite next season, according to boss Steve Crabb.
Bridport Reserves went into their last game of the season at St Mary’s Field having already secured seventh spot but unfortunately they were no match for champions Westland Sports, who signed off their incredible campaign with a 5-1 victory.
Sam Jarman (2), Matt Day, Steven Burton and Mike Rousell did the damage for the Yeovil outfit while Tristan Gale grabbed the home side’s consolation.
Crabb said: “Westland are a good side and the fact we hadn’t played for a couple of weeks really showed in the opening half.
“We found ourselves 2-0 down after six minutes and that was pretty much the end of the contest.
“By half-time it was 4-1 and although we played much better in the second half and restricted them to just a couple of chances the damage had already been done.
“We are pleased we have finished seventh but we are just a little disappointed that we only took two points off the top-six sides throughout the campaign.
“That is clearly where we have got to improve if we are to finish any higher next season.”
The Bees have finished eight points adrift of the top six, having picked up 54 points from their 36 games.
Bees: Fry, Lock, A Clarke, Day, Evans (Hailu 65), Condliffe, McAllister, B Clarke, Williams (Cumm-ings 60), Scovell (Symes 60), Gale.
