Byerley poised for Bees debut

NEW recruit Warren Byerley will make his Bridport debut at Roman Glass St George on Saturday (2.15pm), Trevor Senior has revealed.

The Dorchester Town hitman penned dual registration forms last Thursday and would have featured against Almondsbury had the weather not intervened.

Despite training exclusively with the Magpies, Byerley should be available for the Bees in the short term.

Boss Senior has backed the ex-Hamworthy United star to make a big impression and reckons he can forge a “lethal partnership” with fellow striker Matt Moors.

Speaking to the Bridport News, Senior said: “Warren was disappointed that last weekend’s game was off because he’s dying to get out there.

“He’s been training hard with Dorchester and hopefully will get us some goals. He can make something out of nothing and should work well alongside Matt.

“Matt has missed a chunk of the season through injury but scored in his first game back against Elmore and did well for 45 minutes at Brislington.

“Warren and Matt both know where the goal is, but they also need good service from the midfielders. With the players we’ve got that shouldn’t be a problem.

“We’ve been creating chances all season, our problem has been converting them. Now with Warren, Matt and Lewis Cocker in the ranks I think we have the firepower to do that.”

Gloveman Simon Evans is still covering for Regan Coward at Dorchester, which looks set to be the case for the forseeable future.

Lee Cuff is also unavailable but Senior is confident he can entice Lee Cleal back to his former club for Saturday’s Toolstation Western League Division One encounter.

Meanwhile, Darren Watts is understood to have rejected interest from Sherborne Town, who submitted a seven-day notice for him last week.

Watts has been an instrumental figure for the West Dorset outfit since joining last August and the Bees’ supremo is understandably desperate to keep hold of his playmaker.

“I don’t think Sherborne have spoken to Darren yet but he’s told me he is happy here and that’s a massive boost,” added Senior.

“He had two seasons at Dorchester but didn’t play as many games as he wanted. He’s been a regular with us and has become one of our most consistent performers.

“I think Darren has the potential to be a good player at Conference level if he continues to progress the way he has done.”
