TREVOR Senior has cooled speculation of a dramatic switch to the Dorchester Town hot-seat – but admits he is “flattered to be linked with the job”.
Rumours have circulated this week that the current Bees’ chief is a candidate to replace axed Magpies’ manager Roy O’Brien at the Jewson Stadium.
The former Reading striker has a long association with the county town club having played for them in two spells and managed the under-18s.
When quizzed by the Bridport News, Senior played down the likelihood of a return to Dorchester and revealed that he is yet to be officially approached.
He said: “Most times when the job becomes available my name is mentioned, so to be honest it’s not something I pay too much attention to.
“Obviously I want to manage at the highest level possible but I’m enjoying it here at Bridport. I’m working with a good set of lads and it’s a good club to be at.
“Dorchester is my hometown club and if the situation changes and I get approached then that’s different, but all I can do is concentrate on Bridport.
“I’m flattered to have been linked with the job but Ashley Vickers is in temporary charge at the moment and I that’s all I know.”
Regarding the departure of O’Brien, with whom he had a publicised spat earlier this season, Senior added: “I don’t like to see any manager go but that’s the nature of the game.”
The Bees are preparing for Saturday’s first round Les Phillips Cup clash at Toolstation Western League Premier Division outfit Brislington (3pm).
An under-cooked Bridport side could be subjected to a stern examination but they are renowned for causing cup upsets and relish being underdogs.
Senior, who has lifted this trophy twice before with Bridgwater Town, said: “We have nothing to lose and have shown we can give a good account of ourselves in these situations.
“We were underdogs against both Dawlish and Truro in the FA Cup but that didn’t faze us. It will be a tough game but I’m sure the lads are up for it.
“Oldland Abbotonians won it last year so it shows that teams in this league can do well, and I know what it takes from my time as manager of Bridgwater.”
Lewis Cocker is not ready to return and a late decision will be made on whether skipper Darren Lock joins up with the reserves or travels with the first team.
Simon Evans’ loan deal is due to expire after Saturday but Senior has spoken with Terras’ supremo Ian Hutchinson about prolonging the keeper’s residency into the New Year.
Senior said: “Ian told me he doesn’t have a problem with extending Simon’s spell as long as there is enough cover for him at Weymouth.
“Simon wants to stay so the arrangement should suit all parties. I’d like to keep him for the rest of the season but I’m not sure if that will be possible.”
