BRIDPORT RESERVES 2

HAMWORTHY REC 4

BRIDPORT Reserves ended their season in defeat after a second half flurry from Dorset Premier League champions Hamworthy Recreation, who had to win to be certain of their title success.

Manager Shaun Annetts and some of the players were missing due to an end-of-season break, which had been booked prior to the extension the Dorset Premier League.

As a result, the side were a mix of all three Bridport teams with the first team assistant manager Paddy Behan leading the side.

Hamworthy initially took the lead through Richard Sands on the 26th minute after a move down the left-hand side and a cross came in, that rebounded off the back post and Sands was there to fire in.

A penalty for handball was given inside the Hamworthy box which Andy Martin fired in to level the scores for Bridport after 35 minutes.

Bridport were then able to craft a lead as, from a Martin corner, the Hamworthy goalkeeper dropped the ball and Mika Mamanta was on hand to tap in to give Bridport hope of a last win.

The hosts took the lead in at half-time against the title-chasers but the lead would not last.

Mamanta nearly scored for Bridport seven minutes into the second half when he charged through, went one-on-one with the Hamworthy goalkeeper but fired over.

Callum Charlton then went up the other end a minute later and scored to level the scores.

Things got worse in the 68th minute for the Bees when Martin misjudged a ball through and John Webb ran through and lobbed the ball over Jason Hutchings in the Bridport goal.

Dan Peach went one-on-one but the Hamworthy goalkeeper made a superb save to deny him.

Late on, Hamworthy sealed their win when Carl Edwards fired home and to let the Hamworthy celebrations begin.
