ADAM Fricker described his side’s 2-1 win over Bitton as “the best result of the season” as the Bees continued their good form in the league.

Goals from Matthew Condliffe and Ed Butcher either side of the hosts’ strike was enough to secure the three points despite a raft of injuries prior to kick-off.

Fricker only had the luxury of naming himself, Jason Behan and 16-year-old reserve player Henry Davy on the bench and he felt proud of the 11 players for digging in and getting the job done.

He told Echosport: “There were a lot of factors against us and we went up there with the bare bones.

“We said we were up against it and the XI dug in, showed great desire and commitment and thoroughly deserved the three points.

“It was probably our best result of the season.”

With a stretched line-up, and with players carrying knocks, the away side put five at the back in a bid to contain Bitton, who themselves had picked up in form in recent weeks.

After a quiet first half that included a few attempts from Mark Salter – carrying a slight hamstring problem – and Butcher as well as a smart save from Jason Hutchings, the visitors took the lead just after the break.

Just 25 seconds had elapsed in the second half when a ball from Andy Martin found Condliffe on the edge of the box to rifle home a delicious effort – although the jury was out as to whether the left-back meant it.

Being a goal down, Bitton rallied and pushed three up top looking for a leveller.

Bridport stood firm with their solid backline and when that was beaten, Hutchings was on hand to pull off some super stops.

At the other end, Salter headed just over before smashing the upright with a powerful effort.

However, the hosts got back into the game in the 69th

minute.

From a corner, the Bees were unable to clear their lines and saw the ball scuffed into the back of the net.

The home side were now in the ascendency and skimmed a shot off the bar soon after before the Bees struck the winner.

After being fouled on the edge of the box, Butcher dusted himself down to score from the resulting free-kick with 16 minutes left.

Fricker made no further changes to the side and they were able to see it out for a huge three

points.
