BRIDPORT interim boss Mark Carter says his players are “playing for pride” when they visit struggling Longwell Green Sports in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division tonight (7.30pm).

The Bees have struggled in the league of late, winning just one of their 12 games and Carter is hoping for a reaction from Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Shepton Mallet.

He said: “We were disappointed with the game on Saturday and we want to see the players react well.

“We have six games to go now and we need to play with some pride.”

Carter had three of his charges playing with illness on Saturday, meaning his squad is very light for their clash in midweek.

“The squad is very thin,” he explained. “The reserves are very thin as well but hopefully we will have a couple of players back.

“Hopefully I will have Warren Byerley back, Danny Peart back and Chris Clarke is not suspended now.

“Alan Hill should be back from injury so hopefully we will have a few more numbers back.

Sean Stewart is questionable for the game after his dizzy spell on Saturday and so are Jamie Beasley and Tom Blair who were both suffering with illness.

Longwell beat the Bees 3-0 back in March and Carter’s players will be looking to get some revenge on their opponents.

Bridport are still without a manager as Carter continues to fill in while the club searches for their new appointment.
