INTERIM boss Mark Carter seems to have the magic touch when taking the reins at Bridport, but admits it is unlikely he will be fulfilling the role on a permanent basis.

With the departure of former manager Trevor Senior on Sunday, Carter and player-coach Ryan Dovell were in charge as the Bees ended a run of six straight defeats with a 3-1 triumph over Bradford Town at St Mary’s Field.

That was Bridport’s second win of 2016 – their first also came under Carter in a 4-2 win at Clevedon Town in February, while Senior was absent.

“Trevor did text me about that after the game actually! We had a jokey text with each other,” Carter said when assessing the victory.

“I am more pleased really for the lads but we did nothing different to what me and Trevor had done preparing them.”

Giving an update on the managerial situation at the club, Carter confirmed he would stay on to help the Bees as they search for their next permanent manager but is unlikely to take the job himself.

Asked if a permanent position would be something he would consider, he said: “I am just going to be helping the club out.

“With work and a young family I don’t think I can commit 100 per cent to being a full-time manager, even though I would love to do it, and I have told them that.

“They have asked us (Carter and Dovell) to steady the ship until they make an appointment. I think one of the people they interviewed wants us to stay on until the end of the season anyway.

“The other person they interview might not want us to, so

we are just taking it game by game.”

After Warren Byerley went close with an effort and Tom Blair had a good chance for the hosts against Bradford on Tuesday, they fell behind. Twaine Plummer’s shot took a nasty bobble and beat Josh Hadley in the Bridport goal.

But the Bees fought back and got their leveller through Mark Salter.

After putting his defender under pressure, Salter spread the ball out wide to Blair, who delivered a pinpoint cross for his striker to power a header in off the underside of the bar.

A neat move between Blair, Byerley and Salter then created an opening for the latter to add his second, which he did to put the Bees ahead.

Following the break, Bridport’s Tristan Gale then played in Jamie Beasley, who finished well to wrap up the points for the St Mary’s Field side.
