BRIDPORT RES 2

HAMWORTHY UNITED RES 2

BRIDPORT Reserves secured a point on their long awaited return to action, with manager Shaun Annetts admitting it was an “odd experience” to be involved in a competitive game of football again.

The Bees played their first league game since January 16 due to various postponements and, despite their boss admitting they were understandably ring rusty, Bridport managed to grab a point in a 2-2 draw with Hamworthy United Reserves.

Speaking about the game, Annetts told Echosport: “It was an odd experience, if I’m honest and it felt peculiar after such a long break to be involved in a game of football again. It had been pretty much two months since we last played a competitive game.

“It’s been a peculiar season and quite disruptive, if I’m honest. There was no doubt about it on Tuesday that we were ring rusty and a bit heavy legged. Nothing really replaces games for match fitness. We did the best we could against a good Hamworthy side.”

Bridport’s Dan Peart, who picked up an injury later on in the game, delivered a precise ball in for Gary Bulman, who glanced a header into the net to put the Bees ahead on 20 minutes.

A defensive lapse made it 1-1 10 minutes later and the Hammers then got their noses in front on the hour mark to turn the game on its head.

After the Bees lived dangerously while being a goal down, up popped Bulman in the final 10 minutes with the hosts pushing men forward to level things up at 2-2 and seal a point for his side.

Bees: Fry, Baggs, Day, Peart, Stewart, Herbst, T Gale, Fleet, S Gale (Hughes-Williams 85), Bulman, Radivojsa (Middleton 75). Subs not used: Rowland, Herbert.
