BRIDPORT 1

CRIBBS 4

TREVOR Senior described his side’s 4-1 home defeat to Cribbs as “one to write off” as they suffered defeat in their first home game of 2016.

The Bees’ chief admitted his side were not at the races against their Toolstation Western Premier Division rivals, who recorded their seventh win in 26 league games this term.

“It was our worst performance of the season I would say,” Senior told Echosport.

“I have no complaints, they deserve their win. We just weren’t at the races at all and it was very disappointing.

“It was our first home game since December 19 and we still haven’t really played at home because we didn’t put on a performance on Saturday.

“I can only apologise to the supporters that turned up really. They didn’t see a good game.

“Four or five players came out with a bit of credit but we had too many people off colour.

“The effort was there but it was just basic things. We kept putting the ball into touch, kept giving the ball away, couldn’t kick the ball properly and it is just one to write off really.”

The Bees’ miserable afternoon got off to the worst start possible.

On three minutes, a free-kick from the left allowed Cribbs’ Tom Burns to nip in and head the ball into the net from a chance which should have been cleared by the hosts.

“We just didn’t put anything together, there were very little positives to come from the first half,” Senior added.

Following the interval, Bridport were much improved and did manage to level things up through striker Mark Salter.

Tristan Gale played the ball out to Chris Clarke on the flank, he crossed for Salter, who got across his man and saw his effort loop over the keeper.

But, with the Bees starting to probe the Cribbs’ defence, they fell behind once more out of virtually nothing.

Goalkeeper Jamie Fry attempted to clear his lines but, having taken a touch, fired against substitute George Binding. The ball flew back into Fry’s goal to make it 2-1 to the visitors.

That seemed to take the fight out of Senior’s men and they conceded twice more late on.

A Mason Winter free-kick which nestled in the far corner from the edge of the box wrapped the game up for the away side and they struck once more on the counter.
