BEES boss Shaun Annetts had slightly mixed feelings after seeing his side battle out a goalless stalemate against Wareham Rangers at Purbeck Sports Centre.

While Annetts was pleased with a point and clean sheet, he felt the visitors could have been more attack-minded and pushed harder for the win.

However, after conceding four at Parley the previous week, it was important Bridport tightened up at the back, and they did just that, with Luke King one of their standout performers.

As the scoreline suggests, it wasn’t the most exciting of Dorset Premier League encounters, although the Bees did create a couple of chances.

Opportunities fell to Dan Peach, Rob Jones and Tom Blair in the first half but they were unable to take them.

The hosts did have the ball in the back of the net at one point but the goal was ruled out for a deliberate handball.

“It wasn’t a particularly exciting match,” said Annetts. “After conceding four against Parley I sent the players out with it ringing in their ears that we wanted to keep a clean sheet.

“From that point of view they did what I wanted them to do and I was very pleased with that.

“But maybe we over-emphasized not conceding more than we should have and that made us less offensive.

“We created a few chances but I think both sides lacked a bit of attacking flair.

“But after the disappointment of the week before, when we had a terrible second half, I was happy to get a clean sheet.”

He went on to add: “Our back four did well and Josh Handley in goal commanded his area well.

“Luke King had a very good game at the heart of the defence and so that was pleasing to see.”

One negative to come from the game for the Bees, who host Shaftesbury Town on Saturday, was a hamstring injury picked up by Simon Gale.
