PARLEY SPORTS 4 BRIDPORT RESERVES 0

BRIDPORT Reserves’ manager Shaun Annetts admitted his side’s 4-0 defeat at the hands of Parley Sports left him feeling “hurt” on Saturday.

The Bees were hit with a quadruple blast in the second period without reply, meaning the hosts climbed within a point of Bridport in the Dorset Premier League table.

After a first half where both sides matched one another and cancelled each other out, Parley broke the deadlock around the hour mark.

The Bees failed to clear their lines and lost possession attempting to play their way out from the back.

That allowed a Parley attacker to send a curling effort into the top corner past returning goalkeeper Josh Hadley.

At 1-0 down, the away side had a golden chance to level things up as Adam Stordy, who had resumed his regular duties at right-back having stepped in goal the previous weekend, got forward and forced the home keeper to make a sharp save.

Determined to chase the game, a change of system made by boss Annetts did not have the influence on the game he had hoped.

“At 1-0 down we obviously tried to go and get an equaliser and left a few gaps,” the Bridport chief said. “I changed the formation and went from 4-4-1 to a 3-5-2 and, when I did that, we were caught.”

The home side rounded off a neat move to slot the ball home at the near post to make it 2-0.

Annetts added: “The timing of my change may have been at fault, so I hold my hands up for that one.”

Parley then added two more strikes late on to hit their visitors for four and condemn the St Mary’s Field side to their sixth league loss from 12 games played so far.

“Once we let in the first one and had to press for an equaliser, that’s when we went a little too gung-ho and we didn’t really keep a decent defensive shape,” the manager claimed.

“We lost all our shape and discipline and it was a bit of a scrappy second half. We have a lot to try and put right before this Satur- day.

“At the end of the day, we didn’t hurt them, didn’t score and that’s disappointing. We conceded four goals and that’s hurt me.”

Bridport, who travel to Wareham Rangers on Saturday (3pm), sit 11th in the pile with 12 points from as many games played.
