BRIDPORT are still not ruthless enough in front of goal, according to boss Trevor Senior.

A failure to convert chances on a regular basis is a problem Senior says the Bees have had for the last “three or four seasons” now.

Last Saturday saw the West Dorset outfit draw a blank for the second successive match – a 1-0 defeat to Longwell Green Sports followed a goalless stalemate against Hallen.

Senior has voiced his concerns over Bridport’s lack of goals in the past, and this term they are one of the Toolstation Western League Premier Division’s lowest scorers with 31 strikes from 23 fixtures.

“We can’t seem to score at the moment,” he said. We created a couple of chances on Saturday, especially in the second half, but they’re just not going in.

“It has been the case for the last three or four seasons – we’re not ruthless enough.

“The teams that do well are the ones who have a regular goal-scorer, like Street and Bradford Town.

“We are struggling to put the ball in the net, and we are not the best when the pitches get really heavy at this time of year.

“We try to play football but always seem to struggle in the heavy conditions.”

The Bees host Bitton this Saturday (3pm) in the first of three consecutive matches at St Mary’s Field.

Chris Senior returns to the fold and Rhys Hayter might be added to the squad, though Jamie Symes (thigh) is set to miss out and Chris Clarke (foot) could be rested.

Looking ahead to the clash, Senior added: “Bitton have got a few danger men we need to look out for but hopefully we can put things right on Saturday.

“We have got a run of three home games now and we want to get a bit of confidence from the next two before the cup game against Willand.

“Chris Clarke got a knock over Christmas and has been nursing it since then.

“It doesn’t seem to be improving as much as he would like so we could rest him on Saturday.

“He has still been playing well since he had the knock but not to his full potential, and we’ve got one or two players carrying niggles like that. But they’ve got a great attitude and want to play, they don’t want to miss out.”

Bridport beat Bitton 2-1 in the reverse fixture last October thanks to goals from Shane Evans and Ryan Dovell.
