BRIDPORT captain Ryan Hayter insists he would be a happy man if the Bees could secure a top-10 finish in the league this season.

And while Hayter is targeting success in the 15 Toolstation Western Premier Division games his team have left, the St Mary’s Field skipper also has his sights set on cup glory.

The West Dorset outfit are three wins away from a place in the final of the Les Phillips Cup, with a big last-16 clash against Willand Rovers just around the corner.

“It has been going well,” he said. “The league is really tight though and a lot of teams have games in hand on each other so it’s up in the air as to where we are likely to finish.

“That is why every game is so important, and it doesn’t matter if you’re playing a team at the top or the bottom, anyone can beat anyone else.

“I said at the start of the season that if we finished in the top 10 I would be very happy, higher than that would be amazing.

“We’ve got one of the smallest budgets in the league so if we finish mid-table then it has been a good season for us.”

He continued: “It’s always nice to have a good run in the cups and if we can beat Willand Rovers in the Les Phillips Cup then I think we’ve got a good chance of winning it.

“I don’t think we could have had a harder draw as they are probably the best team we’ve played all season.

“But if we get past them we could be in a position to bring the trophy back to Bridport.”

This Saturday sees the Bees entertain Hallen (3pm), a side they lost to back in September.

And it is clear that Hayter and Bridport won’t want a repeat of that this time around.

“That was one of those matches where we were all over them and ended up losing,” he added. “We battered them for the whole game but they had one shot and scored.

“I don’t think we deserved to win against Sherborne last Saturday but we did at Hallen.

“They say things even themselves out across the season and those two games show that.

“Hallen are always a good side and I don’t know why they are where they are in the league.

“Every game in this league is hard and you never rock up thinking a match is going to be easy.”
