BRIDPORT RESERVES 0 HAMWORTHY REC 4

A CONTEST full of incident saw Bridport Reserves slump to their 10th league loss of the campaign as they fell short against title-chasers Hamworthy Recreation.

All four of Rec’s goals at St Mary’s Field were scored by striker Jamie Moores.

The Bees fell behind moments before the end of the first half when Rec’s marksman found the net with his first to tarnish what had been a promising opening for the hosts.

Townsend said: “There was nothing in it in the first half and, if anything, I would have said we were the better team, but they are a good side and you can’t afford to allow any sort of mistake.”

A second then followed from Moores minutes after the break which Townsend felt was well offside, but was left to stand by the match official.

The hitman then completed his hat-trick, and Bridport’s Jack Scovell had an effort chalked off at 3-0 which the St Mary’s Field manager believed should have stood.

“I couldn’t see what was wrong, even their goalkeeper said afterwards he didn’t know why he didn’t give it,” Townsend added.

“I can’t tell you why he didn’t give it he said there was a foul but I couldn’t see it.”

Townsend’s annoyance then reached boiling point in what he described as a farcical fourth for the away side, gifted to them by the Bees.

He added: “We had a throw-in and, for whatever reason, our lad has thrown the ball at the striker’s head. It was hard to see if it was on purpose but it looked like he meant to do it.

“It hit him in the head went straight into his path and he went through one-on-one and scored, that was the game dead and buried.

“He is just a young lad and hopefully he is going to learn from it.”

An altercation between Bridport’s Dan Peart and Rec’s Luke Dawe also came to a head with around 10 minutes to go, where the away side claimed Dawe had thrown mud at his counterpart, leaving Rec to finish the game with 10 men.

Giving an overall assessment, the Bridport boss claimed: “We have played a lot poorer in the past and I have been critical but I thought performance-wise we were great going forward, but the defensive frailties are there for everyone to see.

“The league doesn’t lie at this time of year, we know where we are and we deserve to be there.”

Bees: Fry, Hill, Peart, Baggs, Steele, Herbst (Cummings 60), Scovell, B Clarke, Fleet (Walken 75), Bulman, T Gale (Fouracre 65).
