TREVOR Senior was a happy man after his Bridport side got the better of Sherborne for the second time in the league this season.

The Bees followed up Septem-ber’s victory over their rivals at St Mary’s Field with a 2-1 win in north Dorset – though Senior admitted the hosts were unlucky not to take something from the game.

He even went as far as saying Sherborne had been the victims of a “smash and grab” raid by the visitors, who enjoyed their fare share of good luck in securing the three points.

Those three points have taken Bridport up to eighth place in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division with an emin-ently winnable game against Hallen to come next.

Going back to Saturday and it was Sherborne who took a 1-0 lead into the break at Raleigh Grove.

There was an element of luck involved in the opening goal as a miscued effort from one of the home players fell kindly to a team-mate and he slotted past Ashley Weeks.

Chris Clarke had arguably the Bees’ best chance before the interval when he went through one-on-one with the Town keeper but couldn’t get his shot away.

The match turned on its head in the second period, starting with Dan Wise grabbing Bridport’s equaliser from the penalty spot after Jamie Symes had been fouled.

The hosts were then reduced to 10 men, though they seemed to play better one man light.

And they could have regained the lead soon after the dismissal, only for Chris Senior to make a remarkable clearance when it looked like Weeks’ net would bulge for the second time.

The visitors knew they had ridden their luck and things were about to get even better.

Jamie Filkins flicked a Wise free-kick towards goal and the Sherborne keeper somehow let the ball slip through his fingers and into the net.

“It was a good win but a bit of a smash and grab from us,” said Senior. “They will be disap-pointed not to have got a point.

“I’m a big believer in luck evening itself out over a season and we deserved a bit.

“Sherborne are a side we’ve always struggled against in the past so it’s nice to do the double over them. And it was good for us to get a win after defeats in our last two games.”
