TREVOR Senior reckons the spirit among the Bridport players is “probably the best” he has experienced since he started his second spell in charge at St Mary’s Field.

And after a promising start to the current campaign, the Bees’ boss is hoping that camaraderie can bring about a successful second half of the season.

As well as targeting a decent league position, Senior is also keen for Bridport to go all the way in the Les Phillips Cup – they host Willand Rovers in the quarter-finals in February.

Reflecting on 2014, Senior said: “It has not been too bad really.

“We had a good run at the end of last season where we picked up a few points and finished 12th.

“Our runs in the cups have been better this season than they have been over the last few years.

“We are still in a cup going into the new year and we had a decent run in the FA Vase, but we didn’t do ourselves justice at Highworth.

“We want to finish the season with a good run of results and be as consistent as possible.

“I’m pleased with the squad we’ve got. We’ve got a group that is probably stronger than any I’ve had here.

“The team spirit is probably the best it has been since I’ve been back at the club. The camaraderie among the players is great and they are a dedicated group of lads.”

On the players that have caught his eye, he added: “Matt Morley showed a lot more consistency this year. He has been a big plus for us and Warren Byerley’s experience has helped a lot.

“It’s a shame Chris Senior has not been available more because he has done really well when he has played.

“Ashley Weeks deserves a mention as well. He has come in and really stepped up to the mark.”

Senior also highlighted the work his management team have put in, including returning physio Lloyd Green, while the boss saluted the club’s hard-working committee.

Looking at the aims for the rest of the season, Senior said: “The highest we’ve finished since I’ve been at Bridport is eighth, so it would be nice to finish higher than that.

“That’s possible but only if we put a run of wins together.

“We could make the top six if we do that, but we’ll want to make sure we don’t get dragged into a relegation battle first.”
