BITTON 1 BRIDPORT 2

HIS team might be enjoying a run of form that has seen them win their last three games in all competitions, but Bees’ chief Trevor Senior feels a weekend without a match could be good for the St Mary’s Field outfit.

Bridport are next in action a week on Saturday when they entertain current Toolstation Western Premier Division leaders Bristol Manor Farm.

And Senior reckons the time off in between will give his men a great opportunity to shake off any injuries they are carrying and get themselves in prime condition for the visit of Lee Lashenko’s high-flyers.

On the field, the Bees couldn’t have prepared much better for the clash with The Farm.

Last week’s 2-1 win at Bitton, thanks to goals from Shane Evans and Ryan Dovell, was their third triumph in a row in league and cup, leaving Senior a happy man going into his side’s break.

“That’s three wins on the trot for us in league and cup, and there’s a real buzz about the place,” he said.

“We’ve got a break now and if we hadn’t got three points more teams would have been able to catch up with us. The break gives us a chance to regroup and get ready for our next game against Bristol Manor Farm.

“We train on Wednesdays and might come in for a light session on Saturday, but that will depend on how many players the reserves need, so one or two people might play for them.

“The squad is looking strong at the moment and everyone is enjoying it.”

Dan Wise has returned to action following his wedding, Adam Symes (back) was hoping to train last night after three weeks out, and keeper Ashley Weeks now has time to shake off his shoulder problem.

Senior added: “There are games this season we should have won but to be sixth at this stage is great.

“I can’t fault the lads, they are looking quite strong.”

Bridport, who lost Jamie Symes to a knee injury mid- way through the first half, made a sluggish start at Bitton and it was the home team that went in front.

But Evans stepped up to rifle in a free-kick via the keeper’s hand and the crossbar and, after having a couple of shouts for penalties turned down by the referee, the Bees went 2-1 up in the second half.

An Evans set-piece found the head of Dovell and he diverted the ball into the far corner of the net.

Victory took Bridport up to sixth in the table, seven points behind Bristol Manor Farm in first.
