BRIDPORT RESERVES 3 WEYMOUTH RESERVES 1

BEES’ boss Robin Townsend got the reaction from his players he was hoping for as goals from Ben Clarke, Tristan Gale and Roger Cummings earned the hosts a deserved three points at St Mary’s Field.

Townsend’s opposite number Jake Richmond had no complaints with the result, claiming the home side simply wanted the win more than the visitors.

Bridport led at the break thanks to Clarke’s header and Gale doubled the Bees’ advantage on 65 minutes when Dan Pidgely was caught in possession.

Lee Sharpe tapped home from a yard moments later but substitute Cummings made it 3-1 to the hosts on 78 minutes.

Townsend was delighted to see his men respond in such a positive way after their defeat 2-1 at Wareham last Saturday.

“I was really pleased with the win and I thought we were excellent,” he said. “I was looking for a bit of a reaction following Sat-urday because the players were down after losing to Ware-ham.

“To be fair to them they responded fantastically and I thought we thoroughly deserved the win.”

Bridport, up to seventh in the Dorset Premier League table, go to Parley Sports on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Terras host Mere Town next and manager Richmond will want to see a marked improvement from his players after a poor display in West Dorset.

“We were awful,” he said, “We didn’t really turn up and they deserved it.

“They wanted it a lot more than we did.

“We didn’t deserve anything from it and I’m really disappointed because we didn’t perform.”
