TREVOR Senior is targeting a good showing in this year’s FA Cup, as his side prepare to take on Highworth Town in their extra preliminary round clash at St Mary’s Field on Saturday (3pm).

With a sizeable purse of £1,500 for the winner and the prestigious competition’s prize fund increasing round by round, Senior hinted that there is always one side that goes on to achieve good things in the cup, and is hoping this year it could be the Bees.

“It could gain some big money for the club and it would be nice to have a cup run,” he told Echosport.

“We have always said we would like a decent cup run, realistically the FA Cup isn’t the one you are going to go a long way in but every year someone does, it would be nice to go two or three rounds but we have to get over the first hurdle.

“It’s a good home tie and I am getting a couple of reports on Highworth, by all accounts the general opinion I have had so far is that they are good going forward, and a good confident footballing side.

“They have won their first two games in their league so it’s going to be tough. I will do my homework on them and find out as much as I can. When I was manager at Bridgwater we did play them in the FA Vase and managed to beat them 2-1 so I’ll settle for that score again.

“If we play like I know we can play, it should be a good game.“

In league action, the Bees suffered another 3-0 defeat when they took on Buckland Athletic on Wednesday evening, meaning they have lost their opening two encounters without scoring a goal.

Senior admitted his charges were out played by the better team, but the game could have turned with the score at 2-0 when Bridport were certain that one of the home team’s players had handled the ball on the line just before half time, and Matt Morley missed the follow-up from just two yards out.

Senior said: “Buckland are a decent side, we started okay but then for 25 minutes we never really got into it.

“If that chance had gone in to make it 2-1 and their man could have been sent off, it’s a possible game changer.”

Bees: S Filkins, Condliffe, Clarke, Hill, Watts (J Filkins 68), Ry Hayter, A Symes, Wise, J Symes (Stewart 68), Dovell, Morley (Richardson 68) Sub not used: Evans
