SLIMBRIDGE 1 BRIDPORT 2

GOALS either side of the interval from strike duo Tom Richardson and the returning Ryan Dovell ensured Bridport ended their season with three league wins on the spin.

Victory over Slimbridge made sure that Trevor Senior’s men sealed 12th place in the Toolsta-tion Western League Premier Division this term.

The Bees’ boss told Echosport: “I was very pleased and it was fairly comfortable. It should have been 2-0 really and we deserved a clean sheet.

“All in all, it was a good allround performance.

“We asked for three wins from our last three games and that’s what we got.”

Bridport’s first strike came when Chris Luke, playing his last game for the club, swung in a precise cross for Richardson to head back across goal and into the net.

After Dovell had a sharp effort on the half-volley kept out, it was his turn to make a real impact just after half-time.

Luke again linked up well with Chris Clarke down the left-hand side and the defender delivered the ball for Dovell to head home and notch his 17th of the campaign.

Although the Bees conceded a dubious late penalty, they could not be denied the three points.
A delighted Senior added: “The referee was only too quick to give a penalty late on after Shane Evans had slid in and won the ball, but, all in all, I’m pleased.

“I’m just disappointed we didn’t keep a clean sheet because we deserved to.

“Overall, 12th is an improvement on last year and I’m very happy with it.

“I don’t think there have been too many games this season where we have let ourselves down for the whole game.

“Six of the draws we have had have been very close to being wins, with last-minute penalties, good finishes or deflected free-kicks going against us.

“If those had gone differently we could have been up to eighth or sixth.

“The key thing is that the nucleus of the squad is still together. We are another year older and another year wiser and I can’t fault this season at all.

“We are looking to build on that and I have spoken about it to all of the lads that will be available for me next season.
“I also have a few lined up who will hopefully come in.”
