MAN-OF-THE-MATCH Matt Morley scored twice as Bridport won their final home match of the campaign and surpassed last season’s league points total in the process.

Tom Richardson and Dan Wise netted again for the hosts while Chris Clarke also found the target with a long-range effort that went through the Hengrove keeper’s legs.

The defeat was the visitors’ ninth in succession and ended their hopes of staying in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.

Clarke had a hand in Bridport’s first goal after three minutes when his throw was flicked on for Morley to head the ball into the top corner.

Looking to apply more pressure, the Bees then had their wings clipped as the away side equalised to make it 1-1.

But it didn’t take long for Bridport to reassert their dominance and they scored three more times before the break to virtually secure the points with 45 minutes still to play.

First, Morley beat his opposite number for pace to net his second of the afternoon, then Clarke let fly from 30 yards, and Wise made no mistake from the spot after Richardson had been caught by a flailing elbow.

Jamie Filkins could have added a fifth after the break only for his shot to strike an upright – he also had a goal disallowed for offside.

Hengrove pulled one back with 10 minutes left but Richardson made it 5-2 when he headed in a cross from substitute Rhys Hayter.

“It was a good way to end our home league games,” said Bees’ boss Trevor Senior. “They may be bottom of the table but we still had to beat them.

“Reaching 50 points was pleasing after getting 47 last season and if we can get another three in our final game on Saturday it would be a good way to fin- ish.”

Commenting on his side’s scoring this term, he added: “Goal scoring was one of the things we set out to improve this season and three players – Ryan Dovell, Tom Richardson and Dan Wise – have scored nearly 50 between them.

“Tom has had a good run and he has been working hard while playing up front in his own.

“He has got to be pleased with the season he has had.”

The Bees, 12th in the standings, end their campaign away at Slimbridge on Saturday.
