BEES: Bridport foiled by late Holt leveller
BRIDPORT RESERVES 1 HOLT UNITED 1
BRIDPORT Reserves came within seconds of ending their four-match losing streak with a win before an injury-time goal meant they had to settle for a point at home to Holt United.
Gary Bulman put the hosts in front on 67 minutes and his strike looked good enough to earn the Bees a much-needed victory as the game reached its climax.
However, in the second minute of time added on, Steve Llewellyn took advantage of some hesitation from Bridport keeper Jamie Fry to rescue a draw.
“I didn’t realise they scored as late as they did,” said Bees’ manager Robin Townsend. “The referee probably played a bit more stoppage time than I anticipated but we should have seen the game out.
“It was there for the taking and we should have beaten them.
“We had six clear-cut chan-ces and four or five half-chances in the first half that we didn’t take.
“It was disappointing to have only got a point but, after our recent run of results we’ll take a draw.”
He added: “We want to see the season out now. Sixth place is still in our grasp but, whether we’ll get there or not, I don’t know.
“I might give a couple of the younger guys a go in the last few matches and Weymouth Reserves on Saturday (3pm) is the one I’m looking forward to the most out of the three left.”
After a goalless first period at St Mary’s Field on Saturday, good play from Michael Hailu and Ben Clarke set up Bulman to make it 1-0.
But deep in stoppage time, and after the home side had conceded a cheap free-kick on halfway, Llewellyn beat Fry to the ball and guided his effort in.
n The Bees were last night playing their final home league game of the season against Shaftesbury Town.
