GILLINGHAM TOWN 1 BRIDPORT 2

GOALS from Gary Bulman and Dan Wise helped the Bees clinch a superb victory away at third-placed Gillingham Town.

Bridport boss Trevor Senior was understandably delighted with the way his team performed on the day as they gained revenge for a 3-2 defeat by the Gills in December.

The visitors took the lead midway through the first half, Wise setting up Bulman to score with a bullet header.

Jamie Filkins and Tom Richard-son had chances to extend the Bees’ lead before half-time, but the away side were more than happy to go into the interval a goal to the good.

However, within a minute of the second half starting, the hosts had equalised.

At the other end, a Richardson header struck the Gillingham crossbar as Bridport pushed for a second.

And they duly went back in front when Bulman, chasing what seemed to be a lost cause, was bundled over in the Gills’ box by the home keeper.

Wise stepped up to strike the ball home from the penalty spot and give Bridport the lead again.

Substitute Tristan Gale, on for Matt Morley, almost added a third on a couple of occasions, but 2-1 was how it finished.

“It was an excellent win and we played very well,” said Senior. “We played down the hill in the first half and caused them a lot of problems.

“Gary and Dan both scored one and set one up, and we could have had more goals.

“We had five or six players missing but Gary was one who came in after hardly playing and did really well for us.

“It was a very good all-round team performance.”

Darren Watts, Max Buckler, Chris Senior and Ryan Dovell were all missing for the Bees which makes this result even more impressive.
