BRIDPORT 0 BRISTOL MANOR FARM 3

BRIDPORT finally got the chance to play their first match of the year at St Mary’s Field on Saturday – but it certainly wasn’t one to remember for the home team.

Not only were the Bees on the wrong end of a 3-0 defeat, they lost Dan Wise and Jamie Filkins to injuries during the match, while Gary Bulman also picked up a knock.

Boss Trevor Senior is hoping all three will be available for Wednesday’s trip to Sherborne, but there is a strong possibility that the Toolstation Western Premier Division match won’t be on due to the wet weather.

If it does go ahead then the Bees know they can’t make the same mistakes they were guilty of on Saturday.

After going into half-time at 0-0, Bridport conceded three times in the space of 10 second half minutes to throw away any hopes they may have had of taking something from the fixture.

“We played well in the first half and it was fairly even in a blustery wind and on a bobbly pitch,” said Senior. “We created four or five chances and made their keeper work.

“Tom Richardson headed over from a corner, though they had a goal disallowed for offside after Ashley Weeks had made the first save.

“Ryan Dovell tried to side foot a shot past the keeper who got a hand to it and pushed it around the post.

“Shane Evans had an effort saved and about five minutes before half-time Jamie Filkins had a shot cleared off the line.

“Bristol looked dangerous from set-pieces and Ashley made a good double save at the near post.”

He continued: “I would say coming in 0-0 at half-time was fair, but then we conceded three goals in about 15 minutes and they were disappointing goals from our point of view.

“They had a few chances late on which we defended well and Ashley saved. He came in for Sam Filkins and was named man of the match.

“It was disappointing to lose but it was that 15 minutes that hurt us. At half-time I said to the lads we had to make sure we didn’t concede an early goal and that’s exactly what we did.”

Chris Luke missed the game but is back for the Sherborne clash on Wednesday.
