TREVOR Senior believes Bridport Football Club is heading in the right direction and can look forward to a bright future.

The Bees have made steady progress, both on and off the pitch over the past 12 months, and the club’s first-team boss sees no reason why that cannot continue.

Senior, whose men sat in 11th position in the Toolstation Western Premier Division before the Boxing Day games, and have suffered just one defeat in their last eight league games, said: “With the first-team squad we have, the aim at the start of the season was a top-six finish and I went on record saying that.

“You have got to aim high and after the first seven or eight weeks of the season I have to admit, I was beginning to look a bit stupid.

“We didn’t get off to the best of starts and we failed to pick up the results that perhaps we deserved.

“However, since the start of November, we have put a good run together and, as a result, have managed to put ourselves in a decent position.

“We have matched every side we have come up against so far, and, if we can have a strong second half to the season, then who knows where we might end up.

“We have a good group of players at the moment, and if we manage to keep hold of them and add a couple more along the way, then the following season we may even be able to aim a little higher.”

The reserves are also going well in the Bespoke Teamwear Dorset Premier League, where they lie sixth.

Senior added: “The reserves have gone through a similar thing. They got off to a good start but then had a bit of difficult patch and are now coming out of it again with another good run.

“They are sixth in the table and just eight points off the top, which is great to see, and hopefully they can push on in the second half of the season too.

“Our third team also started strong but in recent weeks they have struggled for numbers, which is something we clearly need to address.

“Overall though, we are happy with the way things are going and that includes off the pitch too.

“The club had to come through a difficult time last season but since the clubhouse has been done up, we have been getting a lot of functions in there, which has really helped to stabilise things.

“Things are looking encouraging right the way through the club and if we continue to build on that, the future should be very bright.”
