BEES: Tinmen blasted by Bees' early blitz
5:30pm Monday 30th September 2013 in The Bees
BRIDPORT RESERVES 2 TINTINHULL 1
AN early blitz put paid to the Tinmen as the Bees returned to winning ways in the Bespoke Teamwear Dorset Premier League.
Having lost their last three, Bridport’s second-string were in desperate need of a lift and thanks to two goals in the opening 17 minutes they got exactly that.
Both strikes came from corners with Jack Scovell volleying home from six yards, and Ben Clarke scoring from a header, before Tintinhull grabbed one back from a 25-yard free-kick from Max Harrington before half-time.
In the end that was the way it stayed but the Bees could and should have scored more. Not only did they rattle the woodwork on two occasions but Tristan Gale also missed a late penalty as the result remained on a knife’s edge right up to the final whistle.
Bridport boss Robin Townsend said: “For the first 30 minutes we were the better side by far and deserved to go two up.
“We got an early goal through Jack, which immediately settled us down, and then added a second not long after.
“We then had a couple more chances before stepping off the gas a bit and giving them a sniff in the final 15 minutes of the half.
“To Tintinhull’s credit, they grabbed one back with an unstoppable shot from a free-kick but in the second half we really should have put the game to bed.
“We struck the post and bar, had another effort cleared off the line and also saw a penalty saved whereas they rarely threatened.
“In the end it was a pleasing performance and a much-needed win. The lads were all really focused and if we can get that every week then we will be a test for anyone.
“Chris Senior was good again with his talking and Russell Legg had a good run out too. I was also impressed with Luke King, who was outstanding, so all in all it was a very encouraging display.”
Next up for the Bees is a trip to Shaftesbury on Saturday (3pm).
Bees: B Fleet, Senior, King, A Clarke, Fry, G Bulman, Legg (H Fleet 70), C Bulman, Gale (Day 85), B Clarke, Scovell (Jones 75).
