BRIDPORT 0 BRISLINGTON 0

THE Bees dug deep and claimed a precious point against high-flying Bris-lington at St Mary’s Field last night.

It was Bridport’s third draw in four games but what pleased boss Trevor Senior the most was the clean-sheet – his side’s first since September 1.

He said: “It’s another point towards safety but the most encouraging thing was the clean-sheet.

“We haven’t kept many of them this season and to do it against second in the league was really pleasing.

“We played well the whole game, worked hard and dug in when we needed to.

“Neither goalkeeper really had a save to make and there were no clear-cut chances but the tempo was good and for a goalless draw it was a very good game.

“Goalkeeper Sean Lillington came in for the unavailable Sam Filkins and did well, as did Adam Stordy, who came up from the reserves and replaced the injured Shane Evans, so all in all it was a very pleasing performance.”

Although neither keeper was really tested throughout the 90 minutes there were still a few chances of note.

Ryan Dovell and Jamie Symes were both lively for the hosts in the opening period and they combined twice to good effect, only for their respective efforts to fly just off target.

That was the closest the Bees came while Brislington’s best effort came from a second-half corner which ricocheted off Bridport substitute Russell Legg before cannoning against the crossbar.

Senior, whose side remain third-bottom, two points above the bottom two, added: “Chances were limited throughout but that is now three draws in our last four games, all of which were decent performances.

“The one we lost was against Odd Down when they scored two cracking goals in a game we probably should have won.

“Since the bad spell of weather we have come back and done well.

“All we need to do now is try and keep the momentum going.”

Although Bridport appear to be the turning the corner they are still winless in 12 games. They will no doubt hope to end that run at home to fifth-placed Hallen this Saturday (3pm).
