Odd Down 2 Bridport 0

BRIDPORT boss Trevor Senior again bemoaned his side’s lack of luck in front of goal as the Bees came away from Bath last night with nothing to show for their efforts.

Two second-half goals gave the hosts victory but it could have been very different if the visitors had their shooting boots on in the first period.

The away side had half-a-dozen or so decent chances to open the scoring and Jamie Symes hit the post twice with a header and then a shot while Matt Condliffe went close when his effort fizzed just wide.

Ryan Dovell latched onto a Jamie Filkins pass and got an attempt in on goal then Filkins did likewise and, with Shaun Lillington making his debut between the sticks, all was looking promising for the Bees.

He impressed with a smart save from point-blank range, tipping the ball around a post, and Bridport were playing with confidence as the half drew to a close.

But when Odd Down scored five minutes into the second half the visitors were left chasing the game and they couldn’t find their rhythm as they had done in the opening 45 minutes.

Filkins had a great opportunity to level only for the home keeper to spread himself well and smother the effort from just six yards out.

That proved a crucial save as not long before the end the hosts made it 2-0 with another top- drawer finish into the roof of the net.

“It’s just really disappointing,” said Senior. “I feel sorry for the lads and everyone is totally deflated because they all put in a great shift and played well.

“We’ve just got to believe we can get the rewards we deserve.”
