BLANDFORD 27 Bridport 37

A DEVASTATING first-half display was enough to secure a third win on the spin for unbeaten Bridport.

The Blues ran in five tries during the opening 40 minutes courtesy of Will Ennis, man of the match Rory Greening, Pete Phillips, Dave Cutting and Tim Edwards – all of which were converted by Bob Lester-Card.

The second period was a different story altogether as the hosts piled on the pressure. But some stout defending restricted Blandford to just 17 second-half points, which ensured the West Dorset outfit remain top of the pile in Dorset & Wilts One South.

Commenting on the victory, skipper Ricky Stubbs, whose side are without a fixture this Saturday, said: “It was a really tough game but a cracking result.

“We had quite a crowd come up with us, which always makes a difference, and it was a good game to watch.

“The game was dominated by the forwards and although they had a much heavier side, we gave as good as we got and our forwards kept us in it.

“It was a game of two halves really. We scored five in the first half but none in the second.

“We were under a lot of pressure but we coped well and they only got two tries in the second half.

“The whole team felt very proud after that win. I just wish we had a game this weekend to keep the momentum going.”

The only sour note on Saturday was an injury to Cutting, who dislocated his knee in his attempts to secure Bridport’s fourth try.

n Bridport Seconds also earned an impressive win as they recorded a 46-12 triumph over Swanage & Wareham Fourths in Dorset & Wilts Four.

The star of the show was Stefan McMaster, who bagged a hat-trick of tries.

Other scores came via Jason Kidd, Nat and Eli Wellstead, Ryan de la Hunty and Jasper Mowatt.
