THE junior section of Bridport Rugby club is thriving with players covering all ages from six up to 18.

The 2016-17 season saw more than 150 juniors play at all levels and the club are now looking to attract new members for the 2017-18 season.

The promotion was launched this week with several of last year’s juniors featured with the advertising banner in place at the Brewery Field ground.

The Blues' junior section is looking for new players of all ages and abilities.

Boys and girls from school Year Two and above are welcome.

Children from six to eight years will play tag rugby to introduce them to the game before moving into the contact game at the age of nine.

There are then opportunities to play in teams of all ages up to 18.

his season they will run a Colts team and would particularly like to hear from 16-18 year olds.

If you are a new member you can join in at the appropriate age group completely free for the first four weeks of the season starting at the beginning of September, before committing to membership.

Bridport RFC Junior membership costs £60 per season with reduced fees available for additional family members.

The membership includes: RFU certified coaching, post match meals, full RFU insurance, end of season awards, item of club kit provided and all match fees included

The Blues' first XV have had two pre-season friendlies against Puddletown and Crewkerne the latter played for the Brown Bowler.

There was a narrow defeat to a strong Puddletown side played before a crowd of over a 100 and a disappointing defeat to Crewkerne, who retain the Brown Bowler.

Despite lack of territory in the first half the Blues scored three tries to one and led 24-5 at half-time.

A quick score at the start of the second half saw them increase the lead to 31-5.

However, Crewkerne raised their game and the Blues were not able to respond with poor tackling allowing Crewkerne to run in five second-half tries and win 34-31.

Bridport have their first game in the Dorset & Wilts South One at home to North Dorset on September 9.
