SIXTEEN teams are gearing up for this year’s Bridport and District Schools Tag Rugby competition, with the chance of a trip to Twickenham up for grabs for the winners.
The participating schools will be offered coaching by Bridport RFC junior coaches Guy Ferner and Faye Leins in the build up to the event.
Sessions start this week and run until the local final at the Brewery Ground on March 8.
Everyone taking part receives medals and the outright winners, which last year was Mrs Ethelston’s Primary, go on to play other county district champions for a place in the national finals at Twickenham.
The local competition is part of Bridport RFC’s commitment to the community and it is all part of the preparations for next year’s World Cup.
Tag is a non-contact introduction to rugby and teams are made up of nine players, including boys and girls from Year 5/6, out of a squad of 12.
The nationwide competition is sponsored by LV Insurance and headed up in Dorset & Wilts by Dale Rhodes, who is the county schools liaison officer for the RFU.
