WORLD Cup-winning England flanker Neil Back was on hand to give out the awards at Bridport RFC’s annual end-of-season presentation even-ing.

The club had a mixed season with both senior teams finishing in the middle of their respective tables after a campaign where many games were disrupted by the weather.

On the night, Rory Greening was named first XV player of the year while Chris Lamb took the same accolade for the seconds.

Bob Lester-Card received the young player of the year award, Nathan Herbert the manager’s award, Rob Sullivan the Sean Richards Trophy and Mark Perkin was the clubman of the year.

Ninety members and guests sat down to a meal prepared by Angela Munroe, Claire Botting and Pauline Rawles with service provided by members of the Colts squad.

Club president Peter Brooke made an entertaining speech while former Leicester Tigers star Back enthralled guests with tales of his international and club career.

The dinner was a great success and in no small measure down to the organisation of the club’s social secretary David Keating.

A number of Bridport’s games were cancelled last season, particularly by the seconds, due to a shortage of players and the club welcomes any new or returning faces of all ages, abilities and levels of fitness to the set-up.

The junior club has gaps in the age groups, so younger players from age seven upwards, including girls up to 11, are catered for by the club.

Meanwhile, club chairman and stalwart Andy Butler is stepping down due to family and work commitments and first-team captain Ricky Stubbs will be standing aside as he is getting married during next season.

The club is also looking for an RFU Level Two coach for the seniors and Colts and anyone interested should email mark.brfc@springbottom.com or Allan Stearck at astaerck@ hotmail.co.uk

On top of that, the club needs more volunteers to help in the senior and junior sections and anyone who is interested in sponsoring the club should contact president Peter Brook at maggiebrook@dsl.pipex.com
