WIMBORNE SECONDS 50 BRIDPORT 7

BRIDPORT lost for the fifth time in six outings last weekend, giving them less than ideal preparation for this Saturday’s clash with Blandford, the form team in Dorset & Wilts One South.

It was nearly all one-way traffic at Wimborne as the hosts dominated proceedings from the start and hit the 50-point mark with the last play of the game.

A solitary Rob Sullivan try on the hour mark, converted by Will Warham, was Bridport’s only ray of light on another forgettable afternoon for the visitors.

Wimborne crossed for three unanswered tries in the first half and took a 21-0 lead into the interval.

Two more followed early in the second period before Sullivan crashed over from close range to make it 33-7.

Then in the last 10 minutes the hosts cut loose and tries followed at regular intervals as they cruised to a regulation bonus-point victory.

“Wimborne came out of the blocks quickly and we just missed too many tackles and made silly mistakes,” said Bridport team manager Arthur Barclay.

“We just didn’t click at all and there was no link between forwards and backs.”

Bridport’s form of late does not bode well for the visit of Blandford (2.30pm), who have won their last seven league games.

Barclay added: “They have come good recently and won the last seven so they are on a really good run at the moment.

“It won’t be the nicest time to play them but we’ve got to face them some time and at least we are at home.”

Blandford have beaten two of the current top three sides, including leaders Ivel Barbarians, and won 27-24 at Salisbury Seconds last Saturday.
