Magic Mike ends up with the Blues

THREE TRIES: Bridport forward Mike Pibworth THREE TRIES: Bridport forward Mike Pibworth

SHERBORNE SECONDS 35 Bridport 19

A MIKE Pibworth hat-trick could not prevent Bridport going down to defeat at Sherborne Seconds in Dorset & Wilts One South.

The No 8 crossed just before half time and then twice after the restart but the visitors were unable to take anything from the game having trailed 29-7 at one stage.

Despite behind 15-7 down at the interval, Bridport had enjoyed the lion’s share of possession but they could not take their chances.

The home side opened the scoring on 10 minutes with a try after a rare foray into Bridport territory and just before the half hour mark they went over again, this time adding the conversion for a 12-0 lead.

A penalty was kicked a few minutes later to stretch the advantage to 15-0 but Pibworth gave Bridport some hope with a fine solo effort which Wes Lewis converted.

The second half was a scrappier affair and Bridport were hit by a double blow inside the first 10 minutes when Sherborne scored two converted tries to extend their lead to 29-7.

But, again, the away team were hauled back into the game by Pibworth who touched down twice in no time to reduce the deficit to 29-12. Lewis converted the second of Pibworth’s scores.

However, a couple of penalties in the last 10 minutes sealed the win for Sherborne, who stay third in the table behind Ivel Barbarians and North Dorset Seconds.

Bridport now face a rearranged clash at home to Salisbury Seconds on Saturday (2.30pm) while Bridport Seconds, who could not raise a side to face New Milton Thirds, take on Swanage & Wareham Fourths.
