GOLD MEDAL WINNERS: The Mount Olympus team of Maureen Hicks, Lady Captain Sue Pollock, Shirley Gilbert, Eleanor Butler and Heather Boyle with ladies’ captain Sue Pollock
Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club held their own Olympiad as part of Ladies’ Captain’s Day.
The Olympic Games was skipper Sue Pollock’s chosen theme and 50 ladies in groups of four played a Greensome, with both pairs’ scores added together to arrive at the final tally.
And it was the Mount Olympus Women’s Team of Eleanor Butler, Maureen Hicks, Heather Boyle and Shirley Gilbert (68pts) who won the gold medal.
The Judo team of Nicky Stone, Rosemary Shepherd, Sue Kelson and Sally Wool-mington. (67pts) took silver on countback ahead of bronze medallists Julie Oliver, Marion Hurley, Sue Walsh and Di Loving (67pts).
Marilyn Wilson, Kath Joslin, Liz Thompson and Di Harris claimed the Olympic flags competition while nearest the pin prizes went to Rosemary Shepherd, Liz Thompson and Paula Cave.
Saturday meanwhile, saw the ladies, with their partners of choice, playing for the Castree Cup – a mixed foursomes flag competition.
Coming out on top were Carole Brown and Jimmy Gbadebo, who finished eight inches from the cup on the 18th.
* The veterans’ competition was a self-entry, single division Stableford and 54 entrants took the field on a hot, sunny morning.
Dave Cole carded an excellent score of 38 points but going one better was winner Mike Stockton with 39.
Another happy man was Glyn Peach, who bagged a hole-in-one on the 14th.
RESULTS 1 Mike Stockton (24) 39pts, 2 Dave Cole (25) 38, 3 Guy Barnes (16) 36, 4 Richard Parry (17) 35, 5 (acb) Dave Boggis (18) 34.
Bridport veterans also contested a home match against Parkstone, winning 4-2.
* On Sunday, Bridport held their Mixed Open, a Greensome Stableford competition in which 70 teams from Dorset and beyond took part.
And it was three visiting teams who claimed the top three prizes.
There were four teams with scores in the 40s but the winners, by three clear points, with a fine score of 44 were Rod Tucker and Sylvie Coache-Tucker from Long Sutton.
Dudsbury’s Keith and Pauline Webb (41pts) were second, closely followed by Mark and Laura Dodington of Weymouth (40pts).

* Ten players took part in the men’s July midweek Stable-ford.
Mike Barter (16) with 33 points edged Ken Stead (11) into third place on countback but the winner by a clear four points was Brian Osborne (18) with 37.
