SALWAY Ash School represented the South West of England at the ESSA Small Schools National Swimming Championships after winning the Regional Championships.
In the mixed stroke relay, Josh Frampton (backstroke), Georgina Mackey (breaststroke), George Wyrill (free-style) and Callum Mullins (freestyle) secured a place in the B final following the heats.
The team finished first in a truly exciting race in a time of 1.12.58mins, placing them in eighth position overall out of 24 teams at the National Swim Arena at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
The freestyle team consisting of Lauren Rendell, Wyrill, Frampton and Mullins finished their heat in third position with a time of 1.05.52mins to secure them a place in the A final.
Once again the team rose under pressure to finish with a team best time and an overall position of seventh place.
Delighted headteacher and coach Lisa Crew said: “I am so proud of the children. To rise to such a high performance is outstanding. They were foc-used, brave and determined.
“I am sure memories of the experience will stay with the team for ever, they certainly will with me.
“For such a small school to reach the national final is astounding, and to finish so highly ranked is both exceptional and beyond any of the children’s dreams.”
The children and parents would like to thank their coach for her guidance, enthusiasm and support throughout the competitions.
