Woodroffe trio in Regional display

THREE Woodroffe School students swam in the senior ASA South West Regional Champion-ships, which took place at the newly-opened 50m pool at the Plymouth Life Centre.

Year 11 pupils Hannah Pullinger 16, Ben Fowler, 16, and Year 10 Abigail Dare, 15 represented Chard & District Swimming Club.

To compete at these championships swimmers have to obtain the necessary regional level qualifying times in events.

Pullinger achieved qualifying times in 10 events this year and selected six to compete in.

She obtained personal best times in five of these, and also qualified for the finals in the 16 year girls’ 100m breaststroke finishing fourth, and 50m breaststroke claiming second to win the silver medal and setting a new Open Age Club record in this event.

Fowler achieved qualifying times in three events and swam in all three at the championships, again setting personal best times.

He made the 16 year boys’ finals in the 100m backstroke finishing 10th and the 50m backstroke when he claimed seventh.

Dare achieved her qualifying times in eight events and swam in five, also achieving several personal best times.

She made it into the 15 year girls’ final for the 50m backstroke, taking eighth place.

To top it all, the swimmers were lucky enough to watch Olympic hopeful Tom Daley training in the diving pool, and meet him afterwards.
