BEAMINSTER school has seen success British Schools Karting Championships at Thruxton with their three drivers progressing to the National Qualifying Round.

In the National Qualifying Round the team missed out after finishing 11th out of 18 teams.

Having qualified from the regional British Schools Karting Championship finals last term at Exeter, Beaminster School’s team of three drivers, featuring year nine Harvey Harding and sixth formers Oliver West and Sol Withers, managed to progress.

This karting championships were the final for the the South and South West.

The boys drove superbly, handling the more powerful karts - capable of 60mph - really well.

Out of the 56 drivers competing, only four had not driven the Thruxton circuit before with the Beaminster team accounting for three of those.

Many of the other drivers also raced competitively outside of school, some even had racing licences, with many looking very professional in their own racing suits and helmets.

Beaminster had great support from family as well as the school’s Chair of Governors, Mr Mark Carter.

They all braved the cold to cheer on their team who performed very impressively and only narrowly missed out on national qualification.
