ROBBIE Hall fended off last year’s winner Aaron Chambers, who had high hopes of regaining the trophy, to clinch the Fred Tolley Memorial Trophy in the West Bay Anglers’ first match of the season.
Hall had a great day of fishing not only catching the most fish, 10 in all, but also the heaviest single fish as he took the trophy.
Low tide was at 11:51am so the five competitors started to fish in very shallow water, this did not bode well for catching fish, but within the first 30 minutes a fish was caught, and though not a huge amount of fish were caught all the entrants managed to catch.
Even a couple of legal fish were caught – both three bearded rocklings.
Species caught were; shanny, wrasse and rockling.
Weather and sea conditions were sunny with a chilly south-easterly breeze, which got colder as the sea mist started to roll in.
Sponsors were Richard “Tiny” Daw, Andrew Fowler and Karen Hall.
