BRIDPORT Barracudas enjoyed early season success after they lifted the Challenge Cup.

The club hosted the competition – the first, friendly swimming gala of the season.

Blandford Flyers, Barracudas and Frome Swimming Club were very closely matched and at the end of 36 events, there were only five points separating the top two teams.

The Bridport swimmers excelled in a number of individual events, setting a total of 16 personal bests with Nathan Moorey breaking the club record for the 50m butterfly in a time of 28:04 secs.

The traditional mixed 10x25m cannon relay concluded the gala.

The swimmers in the final leg reaching the wall in a blanket finish accompanied by the deafening cheers of spectators and swimmers – a fabulous end to a great gala with the hosts claiming overall victory.

The final scores were: Bridport Barracudas 129 points, Blandford Flyers 115 points and Frome 91 points
