CLYST ST GEORGE 214-9 (8pts) lost to UPLYME & LYME REGIS 216-6 (19pts) by four wickets

UPLYME & Lyme Regis pulled off a four-wicket win at fellow strugglers Clyst St George in their Devon Cricket League C Division East 1st XI clash.

With a merging of the 1st XI league structure coming into play for 2018, no team in the division will be relegated this season, but Uplyme nevertheless took a good win against Clyst, who lie directly above them in the table.

The hosts won the toss, elected to bat first and made excellent progress despite losing Ed Middleton (7) and Sam Read (23) early on to Neil Price (1-26) and Steve Batey (2-28) respectively.

Captain Christopher Ferro (50) and Jayakrupakar Nallala (50) both hit half-centuries to move the home side into a commanding position on 149-2.

But Harvey Brimicombe (3-41) struck for the visitors, removing both men for just one run to leave Clyst on 150-4.

Mark Batey then took 2-12 as only two more Clyst batsmen hit double figures to post 214-9 from their 45 overs.

And Uplyme started their reply magnificently with a century stand between Laurie Thomas (72) and Liam Gorfine (56) until Middleton (1-36) dismissed Gorfine with the score on 103-1.

Brimicombe (20) then helped put on 74 for the next wicket with Thomas as the top order broke the back of the run chase.

Three late wickets for Sam Read (3-39) merely checked Uplyme’s progress though, and they ran out comfortable four-wicket victors with 10 balls remaining.

Uplyme’s final game of the season is at home to Feniton on Saturday (1.30pm)
