Veterans' Section

THE Thursday competition was a self-entry, single division Stableford.

Forty players set of on a very windy morning and the conditions hampered most of those taking part with the exception of Bryan Holmes(15).

He seemed to have been blessed with greater wind resistance than the rest of the field and his 37 points gave him a clear four-point lead.

Following him came five players all carding 33 points and, after countback, Jimmy Gbadebo (13) took second spot, Brian Osborne (22) was third and fourth was Brian Fearon (13).

Later in the day there was a home match versus Isle of Purbeck.

Match captain Jim Thorpe reports that the strong wind blew all his group’s balls off the exposed fifth green so they agreed to halve the hole.

On a more positive note his partner, Glyn Peach (28) put his tee shot in the water on the 10th and then, after a drop, chipped his ball over the pond into the hole for a par three.

The match was won by Bridport 4-2.

Next day the away match against Axe Cliff was won by Bridport, also 4-2.
