Veterans’ Section

A HOME match versus Long Sutton last Thursday meant the competition was a single division self-entry Stableford.

Fifty members took part on a mainly dull morning with a stiff breeze.

It was the sort of wind that meant whatever direction you were playing it never seemed to be in your favour.

It was also the end of winter rules but nevertheless some good scores were turned in.

The two leaders were quite a bit ahead of the rest of the field with Richard Fox the winner with 41 points and Martin Oliver close behind with 40.

In a home match versus Parkstone on Monday. Bridport lost 2-4.

RESULTS

1 Richard Fox (19) 41 points, 2 Martin Oliver (22) 40, 3 Jim Adams (24) 36, 4 (acb) Ray Southcombe (15) 35, 5 Keith Hicks (19) 35.

Thirteen players entered the mixed midweek Stableford.

The winner after countback was Lawrence Turner (22) scoring 37 points.

Runner-up with the same score was Toby Hall (8).

In third place, also after countback, was William Davison (23) with 34 points.

Ladies’ Section

BOTH Saturday’s and Tuesday’s ladies played for the Par Cup where there was a good turnout, writes Di Neal.

The winner was Julie Oliver (-2 on countback) from Sandra March (also -2), third was Julie Walters (-3 ocb) from Jan Clark (-3), fifth was Carolyn McAllister again on -3 and the final prize winner was Julie Woodroffe who finished on -4

The most exciting news this week was Carole Brown being crowned the new Dorset County Spring Challenge winner having played a superb round at Broadstone (nett 69), which resulted in a handicap cut to 14.

No only that, Brown was five shots ahead of the second-placed player, and we all are thrilled as 2016 wasn’t the greatest year for her.

A mixed match played at Honiton resulted in a win for Bridport.
