BRIDPORT Gig Rowing Club’s men’s squad have had a very successful 2016 season, in which they secured some of their best results to date.

The squad has been able to enter A, B and C crews – some of which consisted of juniors who are now part of the men’s crews.

The men also competed in veterans (over-40) and super veterans (over-50) categories at most regattas throughout the season, all around the south west.

Finishing 17th at Three Rivers, the first event of the season, and continuing this form to take 36th at the World Championships in the Isles of Scilly, then making the quarter-finals at Newquay County Championships are among some of the squads' best achievements of the year, to name just a few.

This success comes after months of training on and off the water, together as a squad and individually.

To thank their main kit sponsors, the George Hotel and Palmers Brewery, the men presented a photograph and a signed racing top to the George at the club’s annual Christmas pub run.

This event involves a run from West Bay to Bridport in Christmas fancy dress, with several pit stops along the way.

The men’s squad are recruiting new members who would like to give this exciting and sociable sport a try.

No previous rowing experience is necessary, however, a relative level of fitness is recommended.

The squad would like to offer taster rows to any men who are interested in getting out on the water. For more information, contact the men’s captain, Kevin Batchelor – menscaptain@brid portgigclub.org
