THE men’s Sunday competition at Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club was a three-man team Texas Scramble off of a sixth of the combined handicap, writes Peter Crowter.

The winners, with an 8.3 handicap, were Mike Savage, Mark McMaster and Dave Smith scoring 59.7.

Second, with a 5.8 handicap, was the team of Pat Hart, Doug Miners and Lewis Craddock scoring 61.2.

In third place, with a handicap of 8.3 were Malcolm Young, Roger Galpin and Barry O’Mahony, with 61.7.

The Midweek Stableford was won by Mike Chivers (13) scoring 36 points.

In the first leg of the Hardy B Cup Final, Bridport beat the Isle of Purbeck 4-1 in the home match. The Bridport team have to secure just 1 ½ points in the second away leg to win the cup.

Veterans' Section

THIRTY-nine players took the field for the Thursday veterans’ competition which was a self-entry, single division Stableford.

Conditions were good, the weather being fine with very little wind.

This was reflected in the scores with the five prize-winners all scoring 37 points or more. The winner by a clear two points was Bob Dennis, scoring 41 points. Vince Adams took the runner-up spot with 39 points.

The veterans narrowly lost two recent away matches, one at Parkstone and the other at Ashley Wood, the result in both cases being 2½-3½.

Ladies' Section

SATURDAY saw nine ladies compete for the Saturday Cup, which was won by Ruth Donovan, writes Lyn Hargrave.

Donovan returned to form after several months away with a very good score of 39 points. Runner-up was Judy Walters, carding 34 points.

A field of 24 ladies, of which 18 were grannies, that braved the first sign of Autumn on Tuesday to play for the Granny Cup.

The six non grannies played a Stableford in the seventh round of the 125-year competition.

It was a dank but happily windless morning with the greens recovering from the hollow tinning of last week making putting somewhat difficult.

Jane White and Nicky Stone seemed to manage very well while most struggled a bit.

The final of the Parkin Cup, a county event for players with handicaps 21 or above, was played at Lyme Regis.

The Bridport team of Liz Thompson, Lynne Jessop and Sally Woolmington, after a great effort to reach the final, lost to Crane Valley having got drenched on the way.
