BRIDPORT gig club notched up some great results when they travelled to Bristol docks for the annual sprint regatta on Saturday, April 2.

Bridport entered two ladies' crews, two men’s crews and a junior crew; rowing in ‘Bucky Doo’.

The juniors had a brilliant race, winning their first race, securing a very good time of eight minutes 32 seconds.

The ladies’ A crew progressed to the final, finishing in second place overall with a time of seven minutes 54 seconds.

The Ladies B crew missed out on a second round place, but had a good race, which for three of the crew members was their first ever competitive race with the club.

The men’s A crew also progressed to the later stages of racing, securing third place behind Salcombe and Bristol.

With a very fast time of six minutes 52 seconds, the men narrowly missed out on a place in the final by less than a second.

The men’s veteran crew raced into the second round, finishing in second place in the veteran’s race with a time of 7 minutes 44 seconds.

The day was enjoyed by all of Bridport gig club, and the squads are now in training for the World Championships held over the bank holiday weekend at the beginning of May.

This will be the sixth year the club has competed at the event and the first year they have entered a ladies C team, which demonstrates the increasing scope of the club.

men’s A, B and veterans and supervets crews will be travelling to the Isles of Scilly for the event, along with ladies A, B, C and veterans crews.

Over 160 boats are competing this year, making it the biggest year yet.
