THERE was a good turnout of 56 for Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club's men's Sunday Stableford, writes Peter Crowter.

Despite the cold there was some good solid scoring and 21 players scored 36 points or more.

The best nett scores were in Division Three where Tony Burwood led with 41 points and following him the next four players all carded 39 points.

Patrick Hart enjoyed a three-point lead in Division Two with 40 points and club captain Ian Kearley was among the prize-winners, finishing third (after countback with three others) with 36 points.

Thirty-nine points were enough to take Division One and this was scored by Phil Winton with runner-up Mike Savage on 38 points.

Veterans' Section

FORTY-ONE members competed in the Thursday competition.

Some of the vets were playing in an away match versus Taunton & Pickeridge, the first match of the season, so this was a self-entry, single division Stableford.

After the modest scores of last week, which was the vets' first 18-hole competition after the course improvements, things seem to be back to normal and this week’s scores were more like the ones we expect to see.

The clear winner with a four-point cushion and a score of 41 points was Colin Hore.

Long-time member and father of the present club captain, Terry Kearley came home second after countback from Brian Fearon with 37 points.

RESULTS

1 Colin Hore (18) 41 points, 2 (acb) Terry Kearley (22) 37, 3 Brian Fearon (13) 37, 4 (acb) Bryan Holmes (19) 36, 5 Roy Gill (13) 36.

Hore received a two-shot handicap cut and Kearley a one-shot cut

Bridport lost the away match against Taunton & Pickeridge 4-2.

Ladies’ Section

ON Saturday, the ladies played an Easter Egg Bowmaker in sunshine and no wind, hence some good scores were recorded, writes Di Neal.

The winners with 75 points were Liz Thompson, Sally Woolmington and Wendy Newton followed by Carole Brown, Avril Brown and Sue Winkle on 69 points.

Third place went to the team of Judy Walters, Pat Baldwin and Janie Dowling with 67 points.

Tuesday saw the same format and again conditions were lovely but the wind caused a problem at times.

This time, the winners, with 69 points, were Di Edwards, Jane White and Sandra March .

Second were Nicky Stone, Wendy Newton and Heather Boyle (65 points) and the last of the prize winners, Sally Woolmington, Madeline Skelly and Sue Pollock finishe don 64 points.

All the winners received gifts from the lady captain.

The ladies on both days brought Easter eggs which are being given to Dorset Young Carers, Pat Baldwin's charity this year.
