MORE than 90 players took part in Sunday’s men’s open, 60 of which came from other clubs.

The competition turned out to be very decidedly a case of home advantage for all the prizes were won by Bridport members.

The winners by two clear shots, with a score of 133, were Gary Edwardes, Mike Savage and Matt Gale.

In second place, on countback, were Lawrence Turner, Dave Howat and Julian Green with 135.

Third were Andy Dennis, Martin Drennan and Phil Dowell in the competition where teams of three used their two best nett medal scores to count.

Nearest the pin on the 18th was Lawrence Turner.

Thirteen players took part in the midweek mixed Stableford and, judging by the scores, a tricky wind must have still been around.

The winner with 33 points was Dave Howat (17) edging Peter May (26) into second place on countback. In third place, on countback, was Mike Barter (17) with 31 points.

Veterans’ Section

FORTY-SEVEN members played a self-entry, single division Stableford and Vince Adams walked off the course the clear winner by two points with a 39-point score.

There was some good steady and consistent scoring and Gil Roberts, with 37, came in second after countback from Mike Brake and, after that, the next six players all carded 35 points.

RESULTS

1 Vince Adams (7) 39 points, 2 (acb) Gil Roberts (23) 37, 3 Mike Brake (19) 37, 4 (acb) Mike McGrady (16) 35, 5 (acb) Richard Fox (18) 35.

Ladies’ Section

CAROLE Brown (89-14=75) won Saturday’s medal on countback, writes Di Neal.

She overcame Di Harris (91-16=75) with Julie Oliver (94-14= 80) in third.

Brave ladies tackled the course playing the medal round of the Janet Holmes Cup.

Unfortunately the wind was so strong balls were moving on the greens and, at times, it was impossible to keep the ball on the tee.

A sensible decision was made to cancel the game and the majority of the players returned to the clubhouse for warming coffee.

Friday saw Bridport host a inter-club match against Sherborne. Di Loving, Julie Oliver, Marian Hurley, Sally Woolmington, Ruth Donavan, Di Harris and Carole Brown were triumphant and recorded a 4-2 victory.

Sunday saw Liz Thompson, Sue Kelson and Di Edwards play at Weymouth in the semi-final of the Parkin Cup, a county knockout competition, against the Isle of Purbeck.

Bridport won the match 2-1 and are now finalists.
