FIVE junior West Bay SAC members signed on to fish this year’s annual Frank & Peggy Daw Memorial Trophy match which took place on the East Pier.

The weather was dry but a brisk south-westerly wind kept temperatures on the chilly side, while sea conditions were clear and increasingly choppy.

After a very slow start, the competition finally kicked off with the first fish of the day, a nice sizeable corkwing wrasse for last year’s winner Nathan McMaster.

His lead was short-lived as James Lawrence answered with a double shot of weevers followed by a sizeable ballan wrasse which was twice the weight of McMaster's.

Lawrence continued to catch, with more wrasse and a pout gave him a comfortable lead.

Only one fish came to the scales in the last hour, a blenny caught by Harry Courtice – this was enough to secure third place.

But it was Lawrence, winner of the wooden spoon in 2014, who claimed the trophy.

The junior section would like to thank the Daw family for supporting this event.

Richard Daw, son of Frank and Peggy, would like to thank all the juniors and parents who turned out to take part in his late parents’ memorial match.
